Between The Cracks

Social Movement

Role: Designer

The Problem:
Despite becoming a more common topic, mental health is still something that many struggle with, and unlike physical diseases, symptoms of mental illness may be hard to spot, especially when you don’t even know what to look for. People may feel like they’re alone in the darkness, and unsure of how to seek help.

The Solution:
A card shaped like a real rose that offers an illusion of the plant growing out of impossible places when put in overlooked cracks of public spaces. The back of the card includes an encouraging message, and a QR code that links to the movement’s Instagram for more information on mental health and tips to manage it.

"Even in the harshest places, a rose can bloom.
So can you."

Design Rationale

What I wanted to make was “physical evidence that someone cares”, because when you’re struggling it’s easy to feel like you’re all alone and no one is there to help, when in reality there is always someone who cares. This took form in the idea of the rose card, but that wasn’t enough. I wanted this to be more than just a one time event, but something that could continue to provide support to those in need. So I came up with Between The Cracks and set to work designing the movement’s identity.

About The Movement

Between The Cracks is a self-initiated social movement that aims to bring awareness to mental health issues, and uplift those who are struggling in silence to make them feel seen.  This is a project that I am planning to launch in the future, so please stay tuned!
